Govt accepted JnU protesters` demands: UGC chairman

Online Desk : University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof SMA Faiz has said the government accepted the demands of the protesting students of Jagannath University (JnU).

He made the announcement at the protest rally near Kakrail Mosque intersection in Dhaka on Friday evening, May 16.

The move came hours after JnU students began a mass hunger strike around 3:45pm to press home their four-point demand.

The demands are granting housing allowance for 70 per cent students of JnU starting from the 2025–26 fiscal year until adequate accommodation is ensured; full proposed budget for the university without cuts; immediate approval and implementation of the university’s second campus in the next Ecnec meeting; and justice for the police personnel responsible for attacking teachers.
