Following a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman called for a clear roadmap on two critical issues: the timing of national elections and visible progress on reforms and justice.

Speaking to reporters outside Yunus’s official residence, Jamuna, at 9:30pm on Saturday, Shafiqur outlined the party’s priorities.

“We emphasised two key points,” Shafiqur said. “First, when will the election be held? It should occur at a convenient time, within the promised timeframe, without causing significant public hardship. Second, before the election, there must be a visible process of reforms and justice to meet public expectations.” He warned that holding elections without meaningful reforms would fail to fulfil the people’s aspirations.

“Not all reforms can be completed now, but five specific issues they’ve addressed must be resolved satisfactorily,” he added.

Addressing speculation about demands for resignations, Rahman clarified, “We did not ask for anyone’s resignation.”
