Iran has issued a warning to the United States, United Kingdom, and France, threatening to target their military bases and ships in the region if they assist Israel in countering Iranian attacks.
“Any country that participates in repelling Iranian attacks on Israel will be subject to the targeting of all regional bases of the complicit government, including military bases in the Persian Gulf countries and ships and naval vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea by Iranian forces,” said a government statement quoted by Iran’s semiofficial Mehr news agency.
The warning follows confirmation from American officials on Friday that the US military had helped intercept Iranian missiles aimed at Israel, according to the Telegraph.
The strikes were part of a massive retaliatory barrage launched by Tehran less than a day after a surprise Israeli attack early Friday morning. The UK was not believed to have taken part in the missile defence effort.
Amid rising tensions, the British government is reportedly monitoring the safety of personnel at its embassy in Tehran, concerned they could face reprisals. Meanwhile, both the U.S. and Canada have closed their embassies in the Iranian capital.

In Israel, a missile strike near Rishon Lezion killed two civilians and injured dozens, with rescue teams searching through destroyed apartment buildings.
A Houthi missile from Yemen, backed by Iran, killed five Palestinians, including three children, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.
Israel`s Ministry of Transportation said the country`s airspace would be "closed until further notice".
It includes the Ben Gurion Airport, which has said it is closed for all incoming or outgoing flights until further notice. The airport`s website appears to be down this morning.
In Iran, explosions rocked Tehran overnight, with two projectiles striking Mehrabad airport, near key leadership sites and an air force base, per Iranian media. Iran’s UN envoy reported 78 deaths, including senior military officials, and over 320 injuries, mostly civilians, from Israel’s strikes.
Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz vowed that Iran would face severe consequences for attacking civilians.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused Israel of igniting a war, while a senior Iranian official promised “painful” retaliation.
Israel’s UN envoy Danny Danon claimed Iran was days away from producing enough fissile material for multiple nuclear bombs, calling the strikes “an act of national preservation.”
The UN nuclear watchdog confirmed damage to Natanz’s above-ground enrichment plant but is still assessing impacts on Fordow and Isfahan facilities.
US President Donald Trump urged Iran to halt the conflict through a nuclear deal, but Iran rejected the latest US proposal.
Tehran had been engaged in talks with the Trump administration on a deal to curb its nuclear programme to replace one that Trump abandoned in 2018. Tehran rejected the last US offer.
The talks are due to resume in Oman on Sunday but Iran signalled it might not join.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said US support for Israel’s “genocidal” actions rendered diplomatic talks meaningless, referencing stalled nuclear negotiations set to resume in Oman on Sunday.
"The other side (the US) acted in a way that makes dialogue meaningless," Iran`s foreign ministry spokesperson said on Friday. "You cannot claim to negotiate and at the same time divide work by allowing the Zionist regime (Israel) to target Iran`s territory."
The UN Security Council has been called to address Israel’s actions, with Iran demanding condemnation and accountability. The tit-for-tat strikes have raised fears of a broader regional conflict, though Iran’s allies, Hamas and Hezbollah, have been significantly weakened by Israel.
Pope Leo XIV has appealed to authorities in Iran and Israel to act with “reason” and pursue dialogue after air strikes and missile launches.
He told an audience in St Peter’s Basilica he’s following the situation with “great concern”.
