Brutal murder in Old Dhaka: Another 2 put on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court has ordered a four-day remand for two suspects linked to the brutal killing of scrap trader Lal Chand, also known as Shohag, near Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka.

On Sunday, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah granted the police request after Inspector Nasir Uddin of Kotwali Police Station, the investigating officer, sought a seven-day remand for each accused. The suspects, identified as Alamgir and Monir, were presented before the court earlier in the day.

The development follows an earlier court order on July 10 that placed two other accused in the same case — Mahmudul Hasan Mahin and Titon Gazi — on a five-day remand for interrogation.

The incident occurred on July 9 when 39-year-old Shohag, son of Yusuf Ali Hawladar, was attacked in broad daylight outside the Mitford Hospital gate. He was hacked and beaten to death, sending shockwaves through the local community.

A day after the murder, Shohag’s elder sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a case with Kotwali Police Station accusing 19 named individuals along with 15 to 20 unidentified suspects.

Police say the investigation is ongoing as they work to track down all those involved in the deadly assault.
