Bangladesh seeks to revive labor ties, expand cooperation with Romania

Bangladesh has called on Romania to restart labor recruitment, aiming to reinvigorate bilateral ties and explore new avenues of collaboration in trade, education, and investment.

The proposal was made by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam during a meeting with Sena Latif, the non-resident Ambassador of Romania to Bangladesh, who paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Welcoming the Romanian envoy and congratulating her on the presentation of her credentials, the Foreign Secretary emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in key sectors including labor mobility, trade, education, and consular services.

Siam urged Romania to consider resuming the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers and highlighted Bangladesh’s growing potential in areas such as ICT, renewable energy, and agro-processing, which could offer mutual economic benefits.

He also proposed enhanced academic collaboration between the two nations through joint scholarship programs, mutual recognition of academic degrees, and increased university-level exchanges.

Ambassador Latif expressed appreciation for the proposals and pledged to communicate them to the Romanian government. She also acknowledged Bangladesh’s request to facilitate visa services for students and workers through interim consular mechanisms.

Both sides reiterated their satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations and expressed a shared commitment to advancing cooperation in the coming years.

The Foreign Secretary reaffirmed Bangladesh’s full support for the Ambassador in fulfilling her diplomatic responsibilities and in promoting stronger engagement between the two countries.
