Natl. unity can lead Bangladesh toward democracy thru justice and reform: Adilur Rahman

(BSS) - Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan today said the national unity that forged a year ago , is the only way to guide Bangladesh in establishing a democratic future through justice, reform and elections.

“Bangladesh is going through a crisis period. Various attempts have been made to create instability. Only the unity that was built a year ago can lead the country toward democracy through justice, reform, and elections,” Adilur Rahman said.

He made these remarks this evening while addressing the inaugural ceremony and discussion session of the "Adommo-24" memorial at Jahangirnagar University (JU) as the chief guest.

The Adviser also assured that the government, formed in the aftermath of Mass Uprising, will never compromise on justice. “Several trials will be held as soon as possible,” he said.

“The reform process is also underway. We, the interim government, is working closely with all political parties for drafting a reform charter. Once finalised, we will proceed to restore the democratic process,” he added.

Expressing optimism about future, the Adviser said, “The entire nation is watching. People across Bangladesh are waiting to build a national consensus that brings prosperity and transitions from the past fascist rule to a lasting democracy.”

Adviser also lauded Jahangirnagar University’s robust role during the July Uprising last year.

“Jahangirnagar University has not only established the ‘Adommo-24’ monument, but this university also played a robust role during the July movement,” said Adilur.

The event was presided over by Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, while JU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Sohel Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr M Abdur Rab and Convener of the ‘36 July Fall of Autocrat Hasina Day Observance Committee - 2025’ Prof Dr Md Shamsul Alam attended as special guests.

Besides, members of martyrs’ families, teachers, officials, students, and leaders of various student bodies also attended the programme.
