People reject politics driven by money, muscle power: Tasnim

(BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Jara said the people have turned away from the decade-old political system dominated by money and muscle power.

"The July mass uprising was not merely about changing political faces, rather it was about dismantling the whole fascist system that has long controlled the country," she said.

She made the remarks while addressing a session at the two-day `Bengal Delta Conference 2025` held at a city hotel today.

"It was proved during the July Uprising that the people of Bangladesh do not want to see a political system dominated by money and muscle power," Tasmin said.

The session titled `Reform and Reality: Bangladesh`s Changing Political Landscape` was moderated by Professor Dr Asif Shahan of the Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka.

Dr David Jackman, Departmental Lecturer in Development Studies at the University of Oxford, and Dr Mahdi Amin, Advisor to the Acting Chairman of BNP, took part in the discussion.

At the outset of the discussion, Dr Jackman pointed out that financial influence and muscle power are dominant forces in Bangladesh`s political arena.

He noted that the misuse of funds, particularly during election campaigns, has led to an increase in extortion and abuse of power.

The conference was organised by the Dacca Institute of Research and Analytics.
