Gono Odhikar Parishad demands ban on JaPa

The Gono Odhikar Parishad has issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding to impose a ban on Jatiya Party (JaPa) over the brutal attack on its Vice President Nurul Haque Nur.

They also issued the same ultimatum regarding the formation of an investigation committee and the resignation of the Home Affairs Adviser over the issue.

The party’s General Secretary, Rashed Khan, made the demands during a protest rally held at Bijoynagar in Dhaka on Saturday.

Addressing the rally, Rashed said, "We demand an investigation committee immediately. The Home Affairs Adviser must resign, and the Jatiya Party must be banned within 48 hours."

The protesters, along with party leaders, blocked roads, burned tires, and chanted slogans, calling for justice for Nur and punishment for the perpetrators.

Rashed also expressed strong condemnation, claiming the attack on Nur was not accidental, but part of a calculated effort to eliminate him. "The attack was a clear attempt on his life. If the government doesn’t act, the people will take matters into their own hands,” he stated.

The protest intensified as demonstrators threw bricks at the Jatiya Party office and clashed with police. In the chaos, a storeroom at the Jatiya Party office was set on fire, and police responded with water cannons, sound grenades, and tear gas to control the situation.

VP Nur’s brother, Aminul Islam Nur, characterized the assault as an "assassination attempt," while other political figures, including JSD General Secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan and NCP Joint Secretary Joynal Abedin Shishir, condemned the attack as an undemocratic act.
