DUCSU polls: Shibir-backed Shadik-Farhad-Mohiuddin panel secures decisive win

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami`s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir-supported Shadik-Farhad-Mohiuddin panel has achieved a significant victory in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.

As of the latest updates, results from 18 residential halls were declared between 1:50 AM and 6 AM Wednesday, concluding with Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall. Vice president (VP) Shadik Kayem has so far secured 14,042 votes, more than double the 5,658 cast for his nearest rival, Chhatra Dal-backed Abidul Islam.

General Secretary (GS) candidate SM Farhad has also maintained a strong lead in general secretary (GS) race, consistently outpolling his closest competitor, Tanvir Bari Hamim of the Chhatra League, in nearly every hall.

The detailed results show in Amar Ekushey Hall, Shadik polled 644 votes against Abid’s 141, while independent Umama Fatema received 90. At Sufia Kamal Hall, Shadik again dominated with 1,270 votes, while Abid got 423 and Umama 547. In Fazlul Huq Hall, Shadik received 841 against Abid’s 181. For GS in the same hall, Farhad and Tanvir Bari Hamim both secured 589 votes, while Abu Bakar Mojumdar got 341.

At Shahidullah Hall, Shadik collected 966 votes against Abid’s 199, while Farhad polled 773 for GS, ahead of Hamim’s 249. In Shamsunnahar Hall, Shadik received 1,114 votes, compared with Abid’s 434 and Umama’s 403.

Jagannath Hall proved an exception, where Abid led with 1,276 votes, far ahead of Shadik’s 10, while Megh Mollar Basu dominated the GS race with 1,170 votes.

In Rokeya Hall, Shadik scored 1,472 votes, while Abid got 575. For GS, Farhad secured 1,120 votes, Hamim 447, Mojumdar 241, and Basu 780. At Jahurul Huq Hall, Shadik received 896 against Abid’s 314, while Farhad polled 670 for GS against Hamim’s 409.

Other key results included: Salimullah Muslim Hall (Shadik 303, Abid 110; Farhad 237, Hamim 124), Sir AF Rahman Hall (Shadik 602, Abid 186; Farhad 488, Hamim 245), Bijoy Ekattor Hall (Shadik 991 vs Abid 278; Farhad 779 vs Hamim 442), Jasimuddin Hall (Shadik 647 vs Abid 187; Farhad 540 vs Hamim 255), Sheikh Mujib Hall (Shadik 842 vs Abid 238; Farhad 683 vs Hamim 307), Masterda Surya Sen Hall (Shadik 769 vs Abid 210; Farhad 568 vs Hamim 285), Zia Hall (Shadik 674 vs Abid 248; Farhad 544 vs Hamim 334), Kuwait Maitree Hall (Shadik 626 vs Abid 210; Umama 226), and Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall (Shadik 742 vs Abid 227; Umama 223).

This year’s DUCSU and hall union elections—dubbed the “mini parliament” of Dhaka University—are being held after a six-year gap. The polls saw participation from nearly 40,000 registered students, with turnout exceeding 80 percent.
