China-Botswana Relations Elevated to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: President Duma Boko

In Beijing recently, the President of Botswana, Duma Boko, granted an exclusive interview to China Global Television Network (CGTN) of China Media Group (CMG).

At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Boko paid an official visit to China from October 12 to 17. During his stay, he visited an exhibition on poverty alleviation in Ningde, Fujian Province. In Beijing, he also toured the Museum of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Speaking to CGTN about his visit, President Boko stated that the profound self-confidence of the Chinese people is firmly rooted in their deep historical traditions and rich cultural heritage. He observed that a spirit of unity and cooperation permeates the entire span of Chinese history. He noted that during this visit, he and Chinese President Xi Jinping jointly elevated bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership, emphasizing that both nations can leverage this upgraded framework to broaden cooperation opportunities.

Addressing the Taiwan question, President Boko affirmed that Botswana will steadfastly adhere to the One-China principle, stressing that any attempt to divide Chinese territory or undermine China`s sovereignty and territorial integrity constitutes a clear violation of that principle.

On China-Africa relations, he remarked that ties between China and Africa are mutually beneficial. Through partnerships with China, Africa can adopt and localize cutting-edge Chinese technologies, delivering substantial benefits to both African countries and China.

He further noted that the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping serve as fundamental pillars for building a harmonious world, adding that Botswana firmly aligns with them and seeks to draw valuable lessons from China’s development experience.
