After four months in London for treatment and rest, BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on Monday, May 5. She will be accompanied by her two daughters-in-law—Dr Zubaida Rahman (wife of Tarique Rahman) and Syeda Shamila Rahman Sithi (wife of late Arafat Rahman Koko).
The update was confirmed on Friday by Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, a BNP Standing Committee member and Khaleda Zia`s personal physician.
He stated, "Madam`s health has improved. If everything goes smoothly, she will return to Dhaka on May 5. Her two daughters-in-law, Dr Zubaida Rahman and Syeda Shamila Rahman Sithi, will travel with her."
According to BNP sources, Begum Zia will travel via a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight arranged under special provisions. Although a full air ambulance service is not available, her medical team in London, along with family members, are taking all necessary steps to ensure her safety. The arrangements are being supervised by BNP`s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Others accompanying her on the journey include Dr Zahid Hossain, advisor Dr Aminul Haque Chowdhury, her APS Masudur Rahman, and two household aides—Fatema Begum and Rupa Haque.
