Online Report : Bus services across five routes in Bhola district have come to a halt as bus workers began an indefinite strike following a violent clash with CNG auto-rickshaw drivers over passenger pickup on Sunday afternoon.
According to Mizanur Rahman, president of the Bus and Minibus Workers Union, around 15 bus workers were injured when CNG drivers attacked them in multiple locations. “The attackers also vandalised three buses and took control of five others. We called the strike in protest,” he said.
In response, Md. Zakir Hossain, president of the CNG Auto Rickshaw Owners-Workers Association, alleged that bus workers retaliated by stopping CNG drivers from operating, seizing four vehicles from the bus station. They reportedly set one CNG on fire and damaged three others.
The clash has caused serious disruption for daily commuters, who are now struggling with limited transport options.
The violence reportedly began around 5pm near Bangla Bazar Joynagar School on the Bhola Char Fashion Road, where a dispute between bus and CNG workers escalated into a physical confrontation.
Local police are working to mediate the situation and restore order.
