MT Desk: August 14 is a historic day. On March 23, 1940, on the basis of the two-nation theory of the Lahore Resolution raised by Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque, on this day in 1947, Pakistan, a separate homeland for Muslims, emerged on the world map after gaining freedom from 190 years of British colonial rule.
Despite the tireless efforts of strong leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad under the leadership of the Congress to prevent the partition of India, the steadfastness of the Muslim League and Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the unwavering faith of the Muslims in Jinnah`s leadership, the desire to be freed from the oppression and exploitation of the Brahminical exploiters, and above all, the unity of the Muslims and the exploited Hindu classes of the lower castes made us successful in the independence movement. The role of the Muslims of East Bengal and Bangladesh in the independence movement and the establishment of Pakistan was unimaginable. As a result, Pakistan gained independence one day before India by dividing India. Until the partition of Pakistan in 1971 through the great liberation war, August 14 was our Independence Day. Without Pakistan, the independence of Bangladesh was an impossible matter. Therefore, the importance of August 14 is immense for the Bangladeshi nation. However, the agents of India, especially the Awami League, had banned the celebration of August 14 and the study of related history during their rule to please their Lord India. This situation was resolved after Sheikh Hasina fled to India in the unprecedented July-24 mass uprising of the students and the public and took refuge, and the people regained freedom of speech from the suffocating state. Recalling the glorious history of August 14, Bangladesh Muslim League Secretary General Kazi Abul Khair said the above in a statement today. In the statement, he strongly demanded the national celebration of August 14 as Bangladesh`s Basic Independence Day, saying that this glorious history practice is essential to keep the nation, especially the young generation, connected to its historical roots.
On behalf of the people of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Muslim League, this senior politician extended his greetings to the people of Pakistan on Independence Day and urged party leaders and activists to celebrate August 14 as Basic Independence Day with dignity.
