Kamrul Hasan: A new committee of the Editors’ Council, comprising editors of various weekly and daily newspapers published from Manikganj, has been formed. In the new committee, Shahidul Islam Sujon, editor of Dainik Telegram, has been elected president, and Md. Akram Hossain, editor of Dainik Amar News, has been elected general secretary.
On Friday morning (12 September), in an emergency meeting held at the temporary office of Sab Khobor on Shahid Rafiq Road, the previous committee was dissolved and the new committee was unanimously formed under the chairmanship of Shahidul Islam Sujon and conducted by Ashraful Alam Liton.
The 13-member committee includes:
Vice President – Mahbub Alam Jewel (Weekly Shomoyer Songbad)
Joint Secretary – Advocate Khondkar Sujon Hossain (Weekly Tarunyer Kotha)
Treasurer – Zainal Abedin Babul (Weekly Ababil)
Organizing Secretary – Akmal Hossain (Weekly Agnibindu)
Office Secretary – Mohammad Akter Hossain Milon (Dainik Bangladesh Nishan)
Publicity Secretary – FM Fazlul Haque (Dainik Prithibi Protidin)
Executive Members – Advocate Aminul Haque Akbar (Dainik Al Azan), Golam Sarowar Shanu (Weekly Manikganj), Ashraful Alam Liton (Weekly Sab Khobor), Abdul Alim (Dainik Shirsher Barta), and Kohinur Islam Rabbi (Weekly Sangbad Jomin).
General members of the committee are:
Shahidul Islam (Dainik Manikganjer Kagoj), Md. Anowarul Haque (Dainik Bangladesh Moddhochhol), Babul Akter Monju (Dainik News), Amir Hamza (Weekly Manikganjer Khobor), and Anisur Rahman Bulbul (Weekly Sat Diner Manikganj).
The newly elected General Secretary Md. Akram Hossain said:
“We will not work for the interests of any party or group. Our only goal will be to reveal the truth and deliver accurate information to the readers. For this, we must be ready to take risks and act with courage.”
The newly elected President Shahidul Islam Sujon stated:
“It is our moral duty to remain steadfast on the path of truth and to practice objective journalism. Journalism is not just a profession, it is a noble responsibility and a path of struggle. The Editors’ Council must play a leading role in establishing justice in society and protecting the rights of ordinary people. The reputation of journalism is being tarnished due to political influence. To overcome these challenges, every member of the Editors’ Council must remain united.”
