Narayanganj Correspondent: Cesarean services have resumed at the Narayanganj Mother and Child Welfare Centre after Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian provided a new monopolar diathermy machine. The earlier machine had gone out of order on 18 October, forcing the suspension of all C-section procedures.
Medical Officer Dr. Afsana Jahan informed authorities that the centre lacked the budget to purchase a replacement, resulting in a backlog of emergency cases. After the issue was raised at the Victoria Hospital Management Committee meeting on 5 November, DC Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian instructed the Zila Parishad to supply a new machine immediately.
The machine was handed over on 9 November. Dr. Afsana expressed gratitude, noting that many pregnant women were being referred to Victoria Hospital due to the service disruption.
Shahidul Islam, Deputy Director of the Narayanganj Family Planning Department, said the DC had previously helped resolve a crisis involving iron and folic acid tablets as well.
DC Zahidul Islam said maternal health remains a top priority and assured that additional equipment, including glucometers and blood pressure monitors, will be provided soon.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Alamgir Hossain, Narayanganj City BNP Member Secretary Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu, and Central Working Committee Member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Moin Uddin Ahmad, among others, were present at the event.
