MT Desk: The renowned Islamic scholar of South Bengal, distinguished hadith expert, and former Head Muhaddith of Jhalokathi N.S. Kamil Madrasa, Hazrat Maulana Abdul Haq Saheb, passed away yesterday, June 17, 2025, at 5:00 a.m. in a hospital in Patuakhali (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji`un). He was approximately 90 years old at the time of his death.

He was the maternal grandson of the eminent 18th-century Sufi saint and mujaddid, Hazrat Shah Sufi Khwaja Fayzuddin (RA). Maulana Abdul Haq Saheb was also a close companion and devoted follower of the late Qayed Saheb Huzur (RA), the founder of the esteemed Nesarabad Darbar Sharif.

Known for his honesty, humility, modest lifestyle, and deep scholarly diligence, he was held in high esteem by countless scholars, students of Islamic knowledge, and devout individuals throughout the southern region. Many referred to him as a “Living Hadith Encyclopedia” due to his ability to recite and explain numerous hadiths from memory with authentic chains of narration and sound interpretations.

His funeral prayer (janazah) was held yesterday at 5:30 p.m. in his native village, Nuriabad, under Mirzaganj Upazila of Patuakhali district. Following the prayer, he was laid to rest in the family graveyard. Notably, he was the younger brother of the distinguished Islamic scholar and saint, Hazrat Maulana Musa Saheb (RA).

His passing has cast a deep shadow of sorrow over the community of scholars, students, and lovers of Islam across the country. Various Islamic institutions and spiritual centers (Darbar Sharifs) have issued condolences and prayed for the forgiveness and elevated status of his soul.
