Despite the draw, David Beckham`s club secured their Round of 16 berth. While they couldn`t top the group, they advanced as runners-up. Palmeiras, by virtue of the draw with Miami, also booked their spot in the last 16 as group champions.
Palmeiras dominated possession throughout the match but conceded a goal in the first half. In the 16th minute, Miami capitalized on an opposing corner, with Luis Suárez assisting Tadeo Allende for an easy goal that put Miami ahead. Miami went into halftime with a one-goal lead.
Miami extended their lead in the second half, with Suárez finding the net in the 65th minute. However, few would have predicted that Miami would draw the match.
