  •  Before Yunus no head of govt could take Bangladesh to such a prestigious height: Analyst Tajul Isalm

ABDUL KHALEQUE KHANDKER

The Nobel laureate, ever any time in Bangladesh, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is showing his statesmanship charisma one aftr another.

All and undry, from home and abroad, are now enthralled having seen the dynamic leadership of Prof Yunus as the head of the government.

In this regard, internaional affairs analyst and chief advier of The Muslim Times, Md. Tajul Islam said, before Yunus no previous head of the governmnt could take Bangladesh to such a prestigeous height in th world world community.

From the UN General Assembly in New York to Baku Climate Summit in Azerbijan, everywhere the world leaders stood in line to exchange greeting or to cwitch the chief adviser of Bangladesh, Professor Yunnus.

The renowned figures all over the world have averred about their all out cooperation to this legendary figure to run the state.

Highlighting the massive support of the international community after taking charge of the interim government, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus said that in a few days, the ambassadors of 20 European Union countries in Delhi are coming to meet him simultaneously, which has never happened before in Bangladesh.

He addressed the nation on Sunday evening on the occasion of completion of 100 days of assuming office. In a 34-minute speech, he highlighted the government`s activities, various steps and plans taken on the way to reform and organize elections, including facing adverse challenges.

Meanwhile, the chief adviser highlighted the support of the heads of state of various countries for the interim government in the changing situation of Bangladesh. He said that they extended their hands during the critical period of the country.

He said that 27 ambassadors of the European Union (EU) countries are coming to meet with him simultaneously.

“20 ambassadors from 20 countries of the European Union stay in Delhi. Seven ambassadors of seven countries are in Dhaka. A total of 27 ambassadors, including 20 ambassadors from Delhi, are collectively coming to Dhaka in the next few days to meet with me,” he said.

Yunus said that 27 ambassadors of the EU had never come together to discuss with the government. The reason behind doing this is to show the EU`s support and build high-level cooperation in the economic field.

"Ambassadors of many countries including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Turkey, Russia, Finland, Singapore, Libya have already met me. They assured to increase trade and investment along with bilateral cooperation."

Thanking the world leaders for their support and cooperation, he said, "When I attend the United Nations General Assembly session in September, I have the opportunity to meet with the heads of government of many countries of the world, including the United States, European Union, Canada, Italy, Holland, and the United Nations Secretary General. They have spontaneously pledged their full cooperation to us. I have also had meetings with heads of governments of several neighboring countries including Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan where I talked about reviving SAARC."

After the current government took over, the chief adviser claimed that Bangladeshi working areas are expanding abroad, "We are working for the welfare of the expatriates. On my request, UAE has released 57 convicts and other Bangladeshis. These Bangladeshis protested against fascism at the risk of imprisonment. Bangladeshis have protested like this in many other countries. We are grateful to them.”

Commenting that the government will do everything possible for the welfare of expatriates, he said that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently visited Bangladesh. 18,000 Bangladeshis, who could not go to Malaysia due to the mismanagement of the dictatorial government despite following all the formalities, he assured to open the doors of Malaysia again for them.

"I have applied for ASEAN membership," he said, hinting at strengthening economic relations with the Muslim world in the future. The Prime Minister of Malaysia has assured to actively consider our application. We have received similar assurances from Indonesia.

"Many other countries of the world, including Saudi Arabia, have offered to increase cooperation with us. For the first time, we are appointing ambassadors permanently at the OIC headquarters.”

Highlighting Turkey`s support and cooperation, Yunus said that a trade delegation from Turkey has already visited Bangladesh. The Turkish Investment Authority has announced the establishment of an office in Dhaka for the development of economic relations with this country. Through this initiative will be taken to increase Turkey`s investment and trade. Another high-powered team is coming to Bangladesh this month.
