Ferry services shut for dense fog in Manikganj

The ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat and Paturia-Daulatdia routes in Manikganj district remained suspended due to dense fog on Thursday morning.

Ferry services on the route in the Padma River remained suspended from 3 am and the Aricha-Kazirhat route from 12:00 am, BIWTC authorities said.

Two ferries, Shahparan and Enayetpuri, were stranded, while two others, Hamidur Rahman and Krishani, were anchored in the middle of the river.

In addition, four ferries at Paturiaghat, six at Daulatdia Ghat, and four more at Aricha Ghat have been suspended for passenger and vehicle movement.

Meanwhile, more than 300 vehicles are stranded at four ferry ghats as the ferry service has been suspended since midnight. Of these, more than 200 goods trucks, passenger buses, private cars and microbuses.

Passengers stranded at the ferry ghats are suffering in the bitter cold as the ferry service has been closed due to dense fog.

Patients were also stranded in several ambulances that were crossing the river.

Aricha Sector DGM Nasir Chowdhury said dense fog is a natural phenomenon. It will not be possible to run the ferry until the fog clears.

Although strong fog lights are installed on the ferry but they are not working. Ferry services will resume once the fog clears, the official said.
