Villagers are guarding the bird`s habitat, a sign of love for guest birds in Chalanbil Area

Mirza Abdur Rob Bulbul, Staff Reporter: Rivers, canals and bills are formed in three parts. The cold wind of winter has started blowing in different points of the historical Chalanbil region of Bangladesh. The 9 upazilas of Chalanbilanchal are Tarash, Ullapara, Shahjadpur, Faridpur, Bhangura, Chatmahar, Gurdaspur, Singra and Atrai. Naogaon of Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district and Karatoa river of Birainagar village of Chatmahar upazila of Pabna district are buzzing with the chirping of guest birds from distant Siberia and Africa. Meanwhile, thousands of birds are chirping in the river all the time, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere throughout the area. Hundreds of bird lovers who come from far and wide every day to catch a glimpse of the birds are thronging the abode of the birds. Thousands of visitors and native species of birds arrive in this river every year during the winter season. Every year, when winter comes, this river is filled with the chirping of different kinds of guest birds. Although this river is not very big, it has become known to the people of the valley as a habitat for birds. The different gestures of the birds here, flying all while sitting in silence attracts the bird lovers. On the surface, it can be seen that a group of guest birds are flocking in the middle of the carpet of green grass on the calm water of the river, which is a wonderful sight to see. Here the indigenous species of birds such as Shyamkoil, Pankauri, Channi duck, Buck, Toga and foreign birds including Bali duck, Piang duck, Pati Sarali, Lenga duck are making the whole area colorful. The arrival of birds this year is almost half as compared to last year. This year also many guest birds including Tibetan, Manikchak, Siberian Fidda have come which are worth seeing. When asked the people of the area, they said that this year around 12-13 thousand different species of birds are roaming here. Villagers keep a watchful eye and guard to protect all incoming birds from predators. The villagers and the people of the area are seeking the full cooperation of the local administration in taking proper and necessary measures to keep the bird sanctuary safe. Colorful birds have arrived in this river this year, the birds look very beautiful. In this regard, Tarash Upazila Animal Resources Officer Md. Aminul Islam and Assistant Professor of Zoology Department of Tarash Women`s Degree College Md. Ali Ashraf told this reporter with sincerity. Guest birds carry the beauty of winter. At this time, new forms come to nature with the presence of guest birds. When it feels a bit hot, all these birds leave the area and go elsewhere. No species of guest bird harms humans. However, some unscrupulous traders and hunters in this area hunt these birds and sell them in the market to foodies, which is a punishable crime. All these guest birds come here from far away countries to save their lives. But the saddest thing is that they have to give their lives silently to save lives, with no one to see.

There are laws in the country but there is no proper implementation of the laws. To preserve the balance of nature, free range of guest birds should be protected. The public in the area should be made aware, so that no one hunts or disturbs the birds.
