Nearly 10,000 NIDs found abandoned in Narayanganj

Nearly 10,000 national identity cards (NIDs) belonging to residents of Gazipur City Corporation were found in front of the Ria Gop Cricket Stadium in Fatulla, Narayanganj. A general diary (GD) has been filed at Fatulla Model Police Station.

The items were discovered on Sunday evening beside the Dhaka–Narayanganj Link Road, in front of the stadium.

Eyewitness Nazmul Hasan Babu said, “I was overseeing a sawmill project in the stadium area, which has been ongoing for several days. I have also been running a campaign urging people not to litter. In the evening, a few people arrived in a white vehicle and dumped several sacks here. Suspecting it was trash, we approached and found that the sacks were full of NID cards. We immediately informed the police.”

Fatulla Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shariful Islam said, “After receiving information from locals, we went to the site and informed the District Election Officer. Election office officials later arrived and identified nearly 10,000 NIDs belonging to Gazipur City Corporation residents, along with various important items, including election officers’ seals.”

He added, “A general diary (GD) has been filed at the police station regarding this incident, and the recovered NIDs have been handed over to the election officials. Efforts are underway to identify those responsible for abandoning these items.”
