Sylhet Correspondent: Miscreants at Lama Jhingabari village of Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet looted and escaped with gold ornaments, cash money, Television sets and other valuables from the house of UK expatriate, Shibir leader Bodrul Hoque Sadik on last Tuesday (April-15) causing an estimated loss of Taka 10 to 12 lakhs.

According to a reliable source, the attackers belonged to the BNP, Chhatradal leaders and activists. Locals opined, the attack on Bodrul Hoque Sadik, son of Fokhrul Islam was a sequel of previous enmity, village politics and of political issues.

According to sources, Fokhrul Islam`s son, Bodrul Hoque Sadik, is the former General Secretary of the Islami Chhatra Shibir of Jhingabari Union and is currently living in the UK. The attack on his house was due to his act of sheltering a Shibir activist and criticising the government on Facebook in various times. The attackers allegedly threatened to kill Bodrul Hoque Sadik.

Kanaighat Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Maulana Kamal Ahmed said that the family of former Chhatra Shibir leader Bodrul Hoque Sadik, who lives in the UK, is being attacked again and again. A false and conspirational case was filed against him during the fascist Hasina`s rule for organising the Shibir. Moreover, he was attacked several times. But, even after the change in the political situation after August 5, the act of violence continuing in his house. He strongly condemned and protested this incident and demanded an exemplary punishment for the criminals.

According to the victim`s family, some seven to eight miscreants suddenly entered into the house, hurled cocktails on their faces, attacked the house, vandalised various furniture, looted and took away gold ornaments and cash. When the victim`s family went to the police station to file a complaint immediately after the incident, the police did not take it into account. Later, they returned home helplessly and are currently suffering from insecurity. The incident has created a tense situation in their area.

Despite repeated calls to the mobile phone of OC Abdul Awal, the Officer-in-Charge of Kanaighat Model Police Station did not attend the call for any comment or action in this connection.
