A Bangladeshi teenager died after being shot allegedly by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Kasba border in Brahmanbaria district.

The dead Sakib, 17, succumbed to his injuries at Cumilla Medical College Hospital on Monday morning (May 5), where he was undergoing treatment. He was the son of Motaleb Hossain from Madla cluster village under Bayek union in Kasba upazila.

The incident occurred on Sunday night near Madla border area. During the incident, an Indian national was also reportedly shot and injured, although his identity has not yet been confirmed.

Kasba Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Kader confirmed the incident, stating that around 11:45 PM on Sunday, both Sakib and the Indian national were shot near the border by BSF personnel. Locals took the injured Sakib to Cumilla and the Indian citizen to Dhaka for treatment. Sakib died the next morning while receiving medical care. Efforts are ongoing to gather more information about the Indian national’s condition.

Local UP member Nizam Uddin confirmed that Sakib’s body has been brought home and said they are investigating why the individuals were at the border.
