kamrul Hasan: The Shibaloy Upazila Jubo Dal has protested against writing `Shramjibi` instead of his party title Jubo Dal leader on the memorial plaque erected in the name of Md. Rafiqul Islam of Rupsha village in Shibaloy Upazila, Manikganj, who was martyred in the July Uprising.

On Tuesday, the leaders and activists of the Upazila Jubo Dal immediately protested while paying homage to the memorial plaque erected in the name of Shaheed Md. Rafiqul Islam near Paturia Ferry Ghat in Shibaloy Upazila.

In protest, the President of the Upazila Jubo Dal, Mohammad Hossain Ali, said that Shaheed Md. Rafiqul Islam was the joint secretary of the Ward No. 7 Jubo Dal of Ulail Union in Shibaloy Upazila, but he has been belittled by writing him as Shramjibi on the memorial plaque. A conspiracy is being hatched in Manikganj, like the rest of the country, to hide the contribution of the leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates in the July Uprising. He demanded that his political title be written next to his name on the memorial plaque immediately. Otherwise, a strict program will be announced in the future to protest against it.

In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manowar Hossain Molla said that the work of writing the memorial plaque and the district administration was not done. It was done from Dhaka. If there is any written complaint in this regard,
we will send it to Dhaka. Action will be taken as per the instructions of higher officials.

It is worth noting that on the afternoon of August 5, 2024, Md. Rafiqul Islam was martyred in the firing by the Naval Police at the RCL intersection near Paturia Ferry Ghat. A memorial has been built here in his memory.
