CA Yunus, Army Chief discuss military support to civil administration ahead of polls

Chief of Army Staff General Wakar-Uz-Zaman met with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Monday, where discussions centered on the army’s role in supporting the civil administration in the lead-up to national elections.

According to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s press wing, Prof Yunus expressed gratitude for the military’s continued contribution to maintaining law and order.

He emphasized the importance of a streamlined approach, calling for a clearly defined command structure and stronger coordination among all forces in the coming months.

“I have made a solemn commitment to the nation to deliver an election that will stand out for voter turnout, participation of new and women voters, international confidence in safety and security, and an atmosphere that celebrates democracy and the rule of law,” Yunus said during the meeting.

General Wakar-Uz-Zaman pledged full cooperation with the interim government and reassured the Chief Adviser that the army remains fully committed to supporting all government initiatives.

He urged Prof Yunus not to be distracted by circulating rumors, stressing, “The entire army is committed to making the government successful in all its initiatives and programmes.”

Following his courtesy call on Prof Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna, the Army Chief also met with President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.

During the meeting with the President, General Wakar shared insights from his recent visit to China, highlighting key experiences and takeaways.

He also held detailed discussions on the overall law and order situation and the army’s role in strengthening security across the country.

The Army Chief assured both the President and the Chief Adviser that the Bangladesh Army would continue to extend full cooperation in maintaining peace, supporting internal security, and safeguarding the public. He also briefed them on the army’s ongoing development initiatives and its future plans.
