Workers block Kuril road for unpaid wages, paralyse traffic

Garment workers blocked the road in Kuril, Dhaka, on Wednesday (September 3), demanding arrears of wages and allowances. The protest brought traffic to a complete halt on both sides of the road, causing severe suffering for commuters. No vehicles were able to move between Kuril and Badda in either direction.

Around 500 workers of Eurozone Fashion Garments began the blockade in Kuril at around 12 noon to press their demands for unpaid wages and allowances.

Meanwhile, the Gulshan Traffic Division issued a Facebook post alerting residents about the disruption and advising them to use alternative routes. The post stated that about 500 workers of Eurozone Fashion Garments had blocked both the incoming and outgoing roads at Kuril, halting all traffic between Kuril and Badda.

Speaking on the matter, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (ADC) of the Gulshan Traffic Division, Ziaur Rahman, said that the road remained blocked, causing vehicles on the Uttara–Badda–Rampura route to be stuck in long traffic jams. “People have been suffering due to the situation. Police are trying to normalise the situation by holding discussions with both the workers and the factory authorities,” he added.
