Shibir’s JUCSU VP candidate demands dual vote counting methods

Voting in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) elections is being conducted using OMR ballot papers. Although the votes were initially scheduled to be counted through machine scanning, the JUCSU Election Commission has decided to conduct a manual count following demands from the BNP-backed student panel.

Meanwhile, Arifullah Adib, the vice-president candidate from the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel, has called for votes to be counted using both methods. Speaking to reporters on Thursday (11 September), he said, “If the votes are counted only manually, full transparency will not be ensured. That is why we are demanding counting through both methods.”

Earlier in the morning, voting for both the JUCSU and hall union elections began at 9:00 am and will continue until 5:00 pm. A total of 11,897 students are eligible to cast their votes in this election, including 6,115 male and 5,728 female students. To facilitate the process, 224 booths have been set up across 21 polling centers.
