2-day freshers’ orientation kicks off at IU

Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia began its two-day orientation program on Saturday to welcome students of the 2024–25 academic year, organized in a festive atmosphere.

UGC Chairman and former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. SMA Faiz addressed the event as the chief guest with IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah was in the chair.

UGC member Professor Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan addressed the students as an honoured guest, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali and Treasurer Prof. Dr. Jahangir Alam spoke as special guests.

On the first day, students from the faculties of Law, Science, Social Science, Engineering and Technology, and Biological Science were welcomed. The remaining faculties will be greeted on the second day.

The program began with recitation from the holy scriptures followed by the national anthem. Over a thousand freshers were welcomed with flowers and songs, and top scorers from each unit received awards. Convener of the organizing committee and Dean of the Faculty of Social Science, Prof. Dr. Begum Roksana Mili, delivered the welcome speech.

Professor Faiz encouraged the freshers, calling them Gen-Z and urging them to pursue their talents while contributing to the nation. “Looking at you, I feel hopeful. You have achieved what we could not. Do not lose your way,” he said, also urging teachers to collaborate closely with students to bridge the generation gap.

IU Vice-Chancellor congratulated the newcomers, saying, “There is no alternative to hard work. Your classroom is your home, your teachers are your guardians, and your library is the safest place to gain knowledge.”
