Waterlogging strands 200 families, posing health risks in N’ganj

Over 200 families are currently stranded due to severe waterlogging following heavy rainfall, which has caused floodwater to enter their homes at Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj district.

Locals are facing health risks from the stagnant, foul-smelling water.

According to locals, they blamed animal feed company `Mars Feed`, alleging that its unplanned sand filling has blocked natural drainage system in Bayderbazar union, preventing rainwater from flowing into the river. This problem is compounded by the stench from the company`s raw materials.

Affected villagers report that water has entered their kitchens and living spaces up to knee-level, destroying furniture and causing immense hardship.

In response, Mars Feed General Manager Jashem Uddin said that he could do nothing but later promised to construct a drain within a few days to resolve the issue.

Baidyerbazar Union Parishad (UP) Acting Chairman Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the incident and said that they have started draining the water using motors and promised a quick, permanent solution.
