The Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued a lightning warning on Monday, May 12, forecasting temporary rain, thunderstorms, and lightning with gusty winds of 45-60 km/h or more in 21 districts within the next 1-4 hours from 8:30 am.

Affected districts include Rajshahi, Natore, Pabna, Sirajganj, Tangail, Manikganj, Dhaka, Narsingdi, Rangpur, Gaibandha, Sherpur, Netrokona, Mymensingh, Sunamganj, Kishoreganj, Brahmanbaria, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sylhet, Rangamati, and Bandarban.

Safety precautions advised by the Meteorological Department include:

- Stay indoors during lightning and hailstorms.

- Keep windows and doors closed.

- Avoid travel if possible and seek safe shelter.

- Do not take shelter under trees.

- Avoid sleeping on concrete floors or leaning against concrete walls.

- Unplug electrical and electronic devices.

- Exit water bodies immediately.

- Stay away from electrical conductors.
