Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina bears full responsibility for the killings during the July-August mass uprising, Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam announced at a press conference on Monday, May 12, after submitting an investigation report on the genocide case against her to the tribunal.
The report, submitted by the investigation agency’s coordinator and officers at 11 am, accuses Hasina of five charges, including incitement, instigation, and issuing direct orders for genocide and murder.
The Chief Prosecutor emphasised that Hasina holds superior responsibility as the primary instigator and orchestrator of the July killings.
Initially, the investigation focused solely on Hasina, but later included former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.
On December 17 last year, the tribunal ordered the completion of investigations against Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and 46 others within two months for crimes against humanity related to the July-August massacre.
