A Dhaka court has ordered to seize 19 apartments, four plots, two houses and 85.29 decimals of land owned by former Padma Bank Chairman Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, his wife Anjuman Ara Shahid and their son Chowdhury Rahib Safwan Sarafat.
The order was issued on Tuesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Deputy Director Masudur Rahman submitted the petition, citing allegations of bribery, corruption, forgery, abuse of power and money laundering.
According to ACC, Sarafat and his family amassed significant immovable assets through illegal means, allegedly defrauding clients and misusing their positions. A three-member ACC team is currently investigating the case. The accused are reportedly absconding and have been attempting to transfer or conceal the assets, prompting the urgent court order to freeze the properties under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012 and the ACC Act, 2004.
