Met office forecasts light to moderate rain over the country

(BSS) - Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today forecasted that light to moderate rain or thunder showers are likely to occur in different places across the country for the next 24 hours, beginning this morning.

"Light to moderate rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions", the forecast added.

A trough of low pressure lies over West Bengal to North Bay across Southwestern part of Bangladesh.

Southwest monsoon has advanced up to Cox`s Bazar coast of Bangladesh and conditions are favourable for further advancement. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal and the adjoining area around 27 May.

Day temperature may remain nearly unchanged and night temperature may rise slightly over the country.

Country`s maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded 34.5 degrees celsius jointly at Tangail and Nikli and minimum temperature today was 24.6 degrees celsius jointly Bogura and Hatiya.

Highest rainfall for the last twenty-four hours till 6am today was recorded 74 millimeters (mm) at Patuakhali.

The sun will set in Dhaka at 6:39 pm today and rise at 5:12 am tomorrow.
