BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that democratic transition, justice, and reforms are not mutually exclusive, and must happen together to move the nation forward.
“These can—and must—happen together. This is the best path forward for our nation,” the BNP leader wrote in a Facebook post at 5:42 am on Tuesday.
Mirza Fakhrul, who is currently undergoing treatment in Singapore, stated, “Due to medical restrictions following a crucial eye surgery, I won’t be able to fly for a few more days. Despite this, I have been closely observing the political developments in Bangladesh and doing what I can to contribute to a positive outcome.”
“I was glad to see yesterday`s meeting take place and look forward to clear progress on democratic transition, justice for those wronged over the past 15 years—including in July 2024—and much-needed reforms,” he said.
He expressed hope that the interim government would act wisely and decisively.
“I sincerely hope the interim government has the wisdom and capability to make the right decisions, starting with the urgent declaration of an election roadmap. The longer this delay continues, the greater the risk that the nation will begin to question the interim government’s intentions,” he added.
“Let us not miss this opportunity to put Bangladesh on a path toward genuine democracy and accountability,” Fakhrul concluded.
