No more heavy weapons for field-level police: Home adviser
  Date : 15-06-2025

Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Choudhury has said that field-level police personnel may carry rifle-type firearms, but they will not be allowed to possess heavy weaponry.

He made the remarks today during a visit to the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) headquarters in Dhaka.

While speaking to journalists before departing for the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters, the adviser said the government is committed to strengthening the overall capacity of law enforcement agencies, including the APBn and local police forces.

He clarified that only specialized units such as the APBn will be permitted to carry heavy arms.

Highlighting the improvements achieved under the interim government over the past 11 months, Jahangir claimed that the law and order situation has significantly improved across the country.

He also said that apart from a few isolated incidents, this year’s Eid was celebrated peacefully by citizens nationwide.
