Anisul Huq on 2-day remand in arms case
  Date : 08-07-2025

A Dhaka court has granted a two-day remand for former Law Minister Anisul Huq in a case filed under the Arms Act at Banani Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman issued the order on Monday after police sought a five-day remand.

According to case details, Anisul Huq is the licensed owner of a pistol registered under Banani Police Station. The Ministry of Home Affairs had suspended all firearm licenses issued for personal security from January 6, 2009, to August 5, 2024, and ordered that all such weapons be submitted by September 3, 2024.

However, Huq allegedly failed to deposit his licensed weapon or notify the authorities between September 4, 2024, and May 5, 2025. Police visited the address listed on the arms license but found no one at the residence and received no information regarding the weapon’s submission. No record of ammunition purchases was found either. As a result, he is accused of violating Section 19(1) of the Arms Act of 1878.

On August 13, acting on a tip-off, police arrested Anisul Huq from the Sadarghat area of the capital while he was allegedly attempting to flee by waterway. Since then, he has been placed on remand in several murder and attempted murder cases.
