EC asks all political parties except AL to submit financial statement by July 31EC Secretary Akhter Ahmed briefs media on July 7, confirming letters sent to all political parties except suspended Awami League for 2024 financial submission.
Election Commission (EC) has asked all registered political parties, except Awami League (AL), to submit their financial statements for the calendar year 2024 by July 31, as per the commission’s regulations.

EC Secretary Akhter Ahmed confirmed the matter on Monday (July 7), saying official letters have been sent to the parties in this regard.

“Letters have been issued to all registered political parties except the Awami League, whose registration remains suspended,” the EC secretary said.

According to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), every registered political party is required to submit an audited financial statement of the previous calendar year by July 31. Failing to do so for three consecutive years could result in the cancellation of the party’s registration.

Currently, there are 51 registered political parties with the Election Commission, including the suspended Awami League.

Last year, Awami League`s treasurer H M Ashikur Rahman said the party’s fund had reached Tk 100 crore after submitting its financial report.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) reportedly showed a deficit of Tk 5 lakh in its income and expenditure statement.

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader earlier stated that after submitting their annual account, the party’s fund stood at Tk 2,09,61,306.

The Election Commission is expected to review the submissions and ensure compliance with the mandatory reporting requirements under electoral laws.
