  Date : 11-07-2025

Online Report : Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has called for increased cooperation from the United States in strengthening Bangladesh’s security capabilities.

He made the request during a courtesy meeting with Megan Bouldin, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Dhaka, held at the Home Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday afternoon.

During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of mutual concerns, including law and order, counter-terrorism, criminal prosecution and the prevention of online sexual harassment targeting young women.

Welcoming the US diplomat, Adviser Jahangir emphasized the long-standing partnership between Bangladesh and the United States, particularly in the areas of counter-terrorism and internal security.

“The US has been a key partner in our security sector since the beginning,” he said, highlighting the significant contributions of US training and equipment in modernizing the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

He expressed gratitude for the continued support and urged the US to maintain and expand this cooperation in the future.

Responding to the adviser’s remarks, Bouldin affirmed the United States` commitment to supporting Bangladesh in strengthening its security architecture.

“Every country faces some level of threat from terrorism and extremism; Bangladesh is no exception,” she noted.

In turn, Adviser Jahangir stated that Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies remain on high alert to combat not just terrorism, but all forms of crime.

He also informed that special security measures have been implemented in Baridhara diplomatic zone in Dhaka, including the deployment of Coast Guard personnel alongside other security forces.

Bouldin thanked the adviser for the enhanced security arrangements around the US Embassy, stressing the importance of coordination, communication and information-sharing among relevant agencies to ensure national and diplomatic security.

Also present at the meeting were Additional Secretary (Political and ICT) of Public Security Division Khandaker Md. Mahabubur Rahman, US Embassy Political and Economic Counselor Eric Geelan and Political-Military Affairs Officer Josh Pope.
