Faruk Ahmed, Magura: The girder of the Gorai Bridge under construction on the Naduria Khea Ghat of the Gorai River adjacent to Langalbandh Bazar in Gayeshpur Union of Sreepur Upazila of Magura district collapsed in the wind. A girder collapsed earlier. Two months later, another girder collapsed on the night of Sunday, July 27 and fell into the Gorai River. Meanwhile, the loud noise of the girder falling into the river created panic among the locals. Locals said that this is an unprecedented incident of the bridge girder collapsing in the river due to the wind.
Such incidents are happening because the construction of the bridge is slow due to various irregularities. The construction of this bridge for the crossing of people and vehicles at the Langalbandh-Naduria Kheya Ghat of the Gorai River on the border of Shailkupa in Jhenaidah, Sreepur in Magura district, and Pangsha and Kalukhali upazilas of Rajbari district began several years ago. The construction of the bridge is going on at such a slow pace that it is impossible to say. Therefore, the people of the area feel that no one can say when the construction of this bridge will be completed. And if the bridge breaks during this work, the public will not travel on this bridge out of fear even if the bridge is built.
