Bus services on C’nawabganj-Rajshahi route halted for two days, passengers in distress
  Date : 29-07-2025

Md. Mizanur Rahman, Chapainawabganj: Bus services on the Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi route has been suspended for two days due to a fight between drivers and workers from the two districts. No bus from Chapainawabganj has left for Rajshahi since Monday morning. Passengers are in extreme distress due to the sudden suspension of bus services.

Sources said that on Saturday, there was a scuffle between bus drivers and workers from two districts in Godagari, Rajshahi.
Workers from Chapainawabganj claim that during one stage of the argument, workers from Rajshahi beat up a bus driver from Chapainawabganj. On the other hand, workers from Rajshahi claimed that later, workers from Chapainawabganj beat up one of their drivers. When tension spread over this, direct bus services between the two districts were stopped. Passengers are suffering due to the bus suspension. They are taking risks in auto-rickshaws or small vehicles to go to Rajshahi and other destinations.
Afzal Hossain of Shahibagh in Chapainawabganj city said, "Whenever something happens to the workers, they stop the buses. And we have to suffer. We are very helpless to them." Another passenger named Rabiul Islam said, "The government should take steps in these matters. They will solve their (workers`) problems, why should passengers be held hostage." Why else would the bus services have to be stopped? Abdul Quader Kamal, Senior Vice President of Chapainawabganj District Bus Owners Association, said, "We never want to cause inconvenience to the passengers. But the drivers of Chapainawabganj do not want to run the buses without a fair solution to the fight. We are trying to resolve the issue. He expressed hope that the bus services will be normal from Tuesday, if not on Monday."
