  Date : 29-08-2025

Online Report : A group of miscreants attacked law enforcement officers and abducted a detained terrorist suspect, Md. Sumon Mia, from police custody in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 8pm near the Sreepur-Tengra road intersection. Three police personnel — ASI Shahidul Islam, ASI Emdad, and SI Nazmul Islam — were injured in the attack.

Md. Sumon Mia, son of Moslem Uddin from Pathantek village in Barmi union, faces multiple cases under the Arms Act across various police stations in the district. A joint team from the district Detective Branch (DB) and local police had arrested him from the Nandia Sangun area of Kawraid union.

As the officers were transporting him, the team was ambushed shortly after crossing Tengra Mor. The attackers overpowered the police at the Sreepur-Tengra intersection and freed the accused after physically assaulting the officers.

Muhammad Abdul Barik, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said additional reinforcements were deployed following the abduction. “Multiple attacks took place, and several officers were injured. Sumon Mia is a top-listed criminal with several arms-related cases,” he added.

An operation is currently underway to trace the abducted suspect and identify those involved in the assault.
