2 youths held with arms in Cox’s Bazar

Police have arrested two young men with a firearm and ammunition at Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.

The arrests were made at around 10:30 PM in front of Grammer School in the upazila on Wednesday night.

The arrested individuals were identified as Mohammad Zishan, 25, a resident of Sikdarpara area in the upazila and Mohammad Abdullah, 24, a resident of Koralkhali area under Saharbil union in the upazila.


Chakaria Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Touhidul Anwar confirmed the detention on Thursday morning and said that a police patrol team was dispatched to the scene based on a tip from locals.

Upon sensing the police presence, Zishan and Abdullah attempted to flee but the police pursued and apprehended them. During the arrest, an LG (locally made shotgun) and two rounds of ammunition were recovered from Zishan.

The OC also said that both individuals had multiple arrest warrants against them. A new case has been filed against the two under the Arms Act.

Both individuals were sent to Chakaria Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Thursday afternoon, he added.
