  Date : 05-11-2025

(BSS) - A young driver of a makeshift motorized vehicle (locally known as Alam sadhu gari) was killed when a speeding pickup van hit his vehicle here in the district early today.

The accident occurred around 6 am at the Dakbangla Bazar area on the Jhenaidah-Chuadanga highway, according to Police and eyewitnesses.

The deceased was identified as Abu Bakar Kallol, 30, son of Mir Abul Kashem of Jibne village under Chuadanga Sadar upazila.

Police, quoting witnesses, said Kallol was heading toward Jhenaidah town carrying fish on his Alamsadhu when the speeding pickup van hit the vehicle near Dakbangla Bazar and fled the scene.

Kallol was thrown onto the road and died on the spot.

On information, Police from Arappur Highway Police Station rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge of Arappur Highway Police Station Mrittyunjay Biswas said eyewitnesses confirmed that a pickup van hit the Alamsadhu and speed away.

"We have sent the body to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue and are trying to identify the pickup van," he added.
