2 killed in clash over dominance in Kushtia

Two people were killed and four others injured in a clash between two groups over establishing dominance in Daulatpur, Kushtia.

The incident took place around 12:30 am on Wednesday (September 9) at Baguan Kandirpara village in Mathurapur Union, involving the Mondal group and the Sardar group. Both of the deceased were members of the Sardar group.

The victims were identified as Sarfan Sardar, 50, son of the late Hamer Sardar, and his nephew Baizid Sardar, 35, son of the late Bichar Sardar.

According to locals, during the clash near Baguan Kandirpara market, Sarfan Sardar was hacked to death on the spot with sharp weapons. Baizid Sardar, who was critically injured, was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he later died. Four others were admitted to a local hospital with injuries.

Sarfan Sardar’s daughter, Mim Khatun, alleged, “At night, my father was called out of the house and taken to a nearby garden, where the rival group hacked his legs and slit his throat, killing him.”

Daulatpur Police Station officer-in-charge Solaiman Sheikh said, “Two members of the Sardar group were killed in a clash over dominance. The bodies have been recovered and sent for autopsy. Additional police have been deployed to control the situation, while army members are patrolling the area. Several people were also detained for questioning in connection with the incident.”
