Police have arrested five people in connection with the robbery of Tk 20 lakh from Chandgaon police station area of Chittagong city. During this, Tk 13 lakh 19 thousand 630 was recovered from them.
They were arrested in a drive conducted at Jan Ali Railway Station of Chandgaon police station and Chowdhuryghat area of Laxmipur district on Tuesday night.
The arrested are Md. Sumon, 30; Md. Ali, 45; Md. Rakib, 32; Md. Faisal, 19; and Mosammat Kajol Akhter, 21.
CMP`s Deputy Police Commissioner (North) Amirul Islam gave this information at a press conference at Chandgaon police station on Wednesday afternoon.
He said that on Tuesday morning, Rafiq Ahmed, a distributor of consumer goods of Abul Khair Group, left his house to deposit Tk 20 lakh from the sale of products in the bank.
Then, when he reached the godown of Rafiq Store at Chandgaon Jan Ali Railway Station with the money, the robbers threatened him with sharp weapons and pistols and took the bag of money from him and fled.
He also said that while he was fleeing with the money, Rafiq Ahmed, two employees of his shop and people around him kept chasing the robbers. At one stage, the robbers injured the shop employee Shah Alam by stabbing him with a sharp weapon.
During this, the distributor Rafiq Ahmed was also beaten up. After that, the police conducted a raid and arrested two people in this incident. Later, based on the information given by them, three other people were arrested in a raid in Chowdhuryghat area of Lakshmipur district.
Chandgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahedul Kabir said that 5 people have been arrested in the case of the robbery of Rafiq Ahmed, a distributor of consumer goods for Abul Khair Group, of Tk 20 lakh. At this time, 13 lakh 19 thousand 630 Tk was recovered from them.
He also said that legal action has been taken against them. Efforts are underway to recover the remaining money.
