The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) rescued 17 fishermen on Thursday morning after their boat drifted in the Bay of Bengal for four days due to engine failure.
BCG media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said the fishing boat FB Masuda Shaheen had left Chittagong Fishery Ghat on August 31. On September 7, its engine failed, leaving the crew adrift at sea.
The fishermen managed to contact the Coast Guard’s emergency number 16111 on Wednesday afternoon once they were within mobile network range.
BCG ship Shyamal Bangla conducted a rescue operation at 9:00 AM on Thursday, providing the fishermen with first aid and necessary supplies. The fishing boat was later handed back to its owner.
