A total of 312 people, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, several former ministers, a cricketer, and an actor, have been sued over the death of a furniture shop worker during a protest in Dhaka’s Badda area in July last year.

The case was filed by Md Sabuj, father of the deceased worker Parvez Bepari, on May 26 with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam. After recording the plaintiff’s statement, the court directed Badda Police to register the complaint as a First Information Report (FIR).

Plaintiff’s lawyer Mokbul Hossain confirmed the development on Thursday.

The accused include senior Awami League leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan, Shajahan Khan, Muhammad Faruk Khan, Qamrul Islam, Kazi Zafarullah, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and Pran Gopal Dutta. Others named are ex-cricketer and former MP Naimur Rahman Durjoy, actor Siddikur Rahman, and former DB chief Harun-or-Rashid.

According to the case details, on July 19 last year, hundreds of protesters gathered in front of Subastu Tower in Badda. During the demonstration, law enforcers and ruling party supporters allegedly opened fire. Parvez was shot and later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
