A storm is brewing in Bangladesh cricket as eight directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have launched a no-confidence motion against President Faruque Ahmed, intensifying a leadership crisis that threatens to reshape the sport’s governance.

The move comes amid government pressure for change at the top, highlighting deep divisions within the BCB and raising questions about the future of cricket administration in the country.

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan reportedly urged Farooq Ahmed to resign from his position as BCB president.

Defiant, Faruque declared on Thursday that he would not step down voluntarily, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown.

The government’s push for new leadership, coupled with Faruque’s refusal to yield, has thrust the BCB into uncharted territory.

The situation escalated further on Thursday when eight BCB directors submitted a no-confidence motion against Faruque Ahmed in a letter to the Youth and Sports Adviser.

The directors—Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Mahbub Anam, Fahim Sinha, Saiful Alam Chowdhury, Mohammad Manjur Alam, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, Kazi Inam Ahmed, and Salahuddin Chowdhury—accused Faruque of unilateral decision-making, irresponsible actions, and authoritarian control over critical issues.

The letter paints a picture of a president whose leadership style has alienated key stakeholders, threatening the board’s unity and effectiveness.
