Bodies of women, child among 4 recovered from Buriganga

Online Desk : Police have recovered four bodies, including those of two women and a child, from the Buriganga River in Dhaka in a single day. The deceased are a four-year-old child, two women, and a man. Their identities have not yet been confirmed.

The recoveries were made from different parts of the river between 12:30 pm and 7:30 pm on Saturday (August 23), confirmed Md Sohag Rana, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadarghat River Police Outpost. He said the bodies have been sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

According to the OC, the first body—of a 30-year-old woman—was recovered near Mirerbagh Cold Storage in Keraniganj. Her throat was wrapped with a black burqa, and she was wearing a pink salwar-kameez. About an hour later, the body of a three-year-old boy, wrapped with a scarf, was found at the same spot.

Later, around 7:30 pm, Keraniganj’s Barishur River Police Outpost recovered the floating bodies of a 40-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman near Madaripur Jame Mosque in Jinjira Union. The man was dressed in black trousers and a checkered full-sleeve shirt, while the woman was wearing a grey t-shirt and red salwar. Both had minor injury marks on their bodies.

Abdullah Al Mamun, Superintendent of Dhaka River Police, told that the bodies of a woman and a child were recovered near Mirerbagh Cold Storage, while the bodies of another woman and a man were recovered near Madaripur Jame Mosque in Jinjira Union. Their identities remain unknown.
