Farmer beaten to death in Sirajgnj

An elderly farmer was beaten to death allegedly by his neighbor in Sirajganj`s Tarash upazila over land related dispute on Friday.

The incident took place around 4:30 PM at Chou-Pakia village in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Saidur Rahman, a resident of the same village in the upazila.

According to locals, there had been a long standing dispute between Saidur and his neighbor Bellal Hossain over the land of a road. An altercation was taken place between them in the afternoon over the issue.

Bellal and his son Anisur, at one point, assaulted him with sticks, leaving him dead on the spot.

Later, angry mob set fire to Bellal`s house minutes after the news of Saidur`s killing.

Being informed, a team of police recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Tarash Police Station officer-in-charge Jiaur Rahman said.

Additional police personnel were deployed in the area to avert any kind of untoward situation.

Police were trying to arrest the accused involved in the incident, the OC said, adding that, legal action would be taken against them.
